We follow the AQA GCSE Computer Science syllabus  (8525)

There are two exams.

Paper 1 is the programming paper where you will be asked to answer questions about the theory of programming, read and interpret existing code and to produce code of your own. We have learned Python 3. You can download this (if you haven’t done so already) on to your computer. Go to python.org and choose the download link. You can prepare for this by practising coding. There are challenges on PHHS Live and there are plenty of websites that will give you some challenges too. When you’re ready have a go at some of the past papers from the AQA website.

Paper 2 is the theory exam. Prepare for this by revising the theory and completing past papers.

Remember the revision clinics that take place EVERY lunch time in the IT department. Just come along and ask to speak to one of the teachers and we will do our best to help you with your problem as quickly as we can. This is one-to-one help that is being offered, but you can come as a small group too if you want to.

We are following the Pearson BTEC Tech Award Level 1/2 in Creative Digital Media Production.

There are no exams in this course but you are expected to refer to the theory elements of the course in your coursework submissions. You should also maintain your technical skills as you approach the Controlled Assessment in Year 11.
If you are following the gaming course you should maintain your skills in Construct 3 (editor.construct.net). The Construct website and YouTube have lots of tutorial and help articles to enable you to develop your skills.
If you are following the Photography course you should maintain your practical photography skills by taking pictures and critically analysing them and your photo editing skills with Photoshop. The Adobe website and YouTube have lots of tutorials to help you get the most from Photoshop and your camera.

AQA Food Preparation and Nutrition (8585)

Exam date – Thursday 11th June (pm)

Revision sessions – weekly drop-in sessions at lunchtime after Easter. Each will focus on a different topic area so pupils can decide to attend all sessions or those that they feel they need extra support in.

All pupils have been loaned a revision guide My Revision Notes: AQA GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition that must be returned to school on the exam day. This is an excellent resource as it covers key content that is delivered during lessons and it is combined with exam-style tasks and practical tips.
