Science

The Science Department at Prince Henry’s High School offers a curriculum that aims to engage and challenge students of all abilities at all levels. It is full of wonder and enthusiasm making our students confident and willing to engage with science related material and problems. As a department of Science specialists we aim to create a climate in which students can thrive both academically and personally.

Science is a core subject and studied by all students in Years 9-11. It offers the chance to consider the world around us; look to see how materials work and interact, how our bodies work and how we stay alive as well as how the laws of forces and motion affect our lives. Practical work is firmly embedded into the Science curriculum and gives students the opportunity, in 11 recently refurbished laboratories, to find out relationships between variables, drawing conclusions from patterns in their data and evaluating these.

During KS4 (year 9-11) students study Biology, Chemistry and Physics either on the Separate Sciences or Combined Sciences: Trilogy pathway.

We are delighted that a large number of students choose to continue their learning of Science at KS5 and proud to offer A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and a Cambridge Technical in Applied Science. Science staff are passionate about offering opportunities outside of the curriculum with a number of clubs, trips and competitions run each year ranging from VEX Robotics to Chemistry Olympiads.
