Theatre Studies

At GCSE students will be encouraged to become confident performers and designers with the skills they need for a successful future. They will have the opportunity to participate in performance and devise drama and explore texts practically. Students will gather many invaluable skills, both theatrical and transferable, to expand their own horizons. The written exam paper is designed to help all students realise their full potential as a variety of question styles ask students to combine what they have learned about how drama is performed with their practical experience and imagination. Students learn to collaborate with others, think analytically and evaluate effectively. They gain the confidence to pursue their own ideas and reflect and refine their efforts. Students of GCSE Drama emerge with a toolkit of transferable skills, applicable both in further studies and in the workplace.

Students at A level will gain many invaluable skills, both theatrical and transferable. The written exam paper is designed to allow students to demonstrate their creativity and imagination in interpreting challenging and ambitious set texts and apply independent thinking as they evaluate a live theatre production. They are given the opportunity to devise their own work as well as explore and perform scripted pieces, both of which are linked to a practitioner. This qualification emphasises practical creativity alongside research and theoretical understanding. Students learn through experience, seeing theatre and making theatre for themselves. Students are introduced to a wide range of theatrical styles and contexts as they explore plays practically, devise and work on performances.

Many opportunities are available for all students who study Drama and Theatre Studies including theatre visits, Digital Theatre Plus, National Theatre online, Gold Arts Award, Drama Club as well as frequent visits to the RSC, the Cheltenham Everyman, the Malvern Festival Theatre and our annual visit to the West End.
