History

History is an important subject which is embedded into the culture and ethos of Prince Henry’s High School. This is evident through the school’s own rich history and the traditions it still follows today. The quotation from Simon Schama underpins the values held by the History department that History as a subject should be both informative and enjoyable. The KS3 History course is designed in accordance with the chronological history students are taught through First and Middle School. PHHS begins the KS3 course at the start of the Industrial Revolution and finishes with an introduction to the Cold War. Within the KS3 course, a number of key issues are taught which include law and order, social class systems, the representation of women and the impact of both World Wars.
At GCSE, the students learn a range of key topics that allow them to understand British values (through Medicine in Britain & Early Elizabethan England) as well as a sense of international history (through Superpower Relations and the Cold War & Weimar and Nazi Germany).
