Our award-winning Learning Resource Centre is located at the heart of the school and is very popular with students and staff who appreciate its calm, welcoming environment as a place for study, research and reading. It is a multi-media centre that is fully equipped with PCs, a projector and printing facilities, and is well-resourced with frequently updated books, magazines, DVDs and online resources. The LRC aims to support the academic curriculum with its wide array of resources, and to nurture students’ natural interests and well-being.
A wide range of fiction and recreational non-fiction material is available, ranging from graphic novels and autobiographies to classics, in order to encourage a lifelong love of reading. There is an emphasis on Young Adult fiction, with best-sellers and literary award-winners regularly purchased alongside students’ individual requests.

We offer several activities throughout the year to excite and challenge our students such as Newsday, Carnegie Shadowing and Reading Buddies, and celebrate national events such as World Book Day and National Poetry Day with activities, competitions and poetry readings. We have regular author workshops and presentations and recent visitors include Manjeet Mann, Matt Dickinson and Kate Wiseman.
The LRC is open throughout the school day from 9.00am until 4.30pm and is a popular place for homework and study. There is always an experienced teacher available to support students in our ‘After Hours’ homework club and this is extremely successful (by invitation only). All Year 9 students receive a full induction to the LRC in their first English lesson and Sixth Formers are introduced to valuable research skills. Students and staff have access to the Library Management System and are able to check, reserve and review titles within the LRC and from any networked computer in the school, and via an app from home. With an ethos that places students at the centre of everything we do, the LRC is an integral feature of their academic and pastoral journey here at Prince Henry’s.
