Ofsted Inspections
Prince Henry’s High School was recently visited by Ofsted, and once again received top marks by obtaining an Outstanding judgement.
Inspectors visited the school in Victoria Avenue for two days on 5th and 6th March 2024, observing lessons, undertaking deep dives across several departments, as well as visiting tutor time and assemblies. The inspectors held discussions about the curriculum, and looked at samples of students’ work, as well as speaking to students about their learning. They also met with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year, Heads of Departments and members of the governing body.
The school was once again graded as Outstanding in all five categories examined:
- Quality of education
- Behaviour and attitudes
- Personal development
- Leadership and management
- Sixth Form provision
Inspectors concluded that Prince Henry’s provides an exceptionally high quality of education for its students, stating in their report that students:
- “flourish academically and grow into caring and responsible young adults”
- “learn alongside enthusiastic, dedicated and knowledgeable staff and classrooms are places where students think, question and reflect on their learning”
- “live out the school values through their behaviour every day”
- “achieve exceptionally well”
- “benefit from a comprehensive personal development offer”
- “learn about, and share, the important values that will help them succeed in later life”
In terms of the school’s Sixth Form, the inspectors commented that it was “a shining light….where there is an aspirational culture that values hard work”. The inspectors also noted that “the school takes particular care of its most vulnerable students”.
Headteacher Dr Tony Evans commented “Ofsted’s report recognises the wonderful school that Prince Henry’s is, and is a testament to the hard work and efforts of the students, staff, parents, carers, governors and everyone associated with the school. In the opening paragraph of their report, the inspectors said that “Everyone at Prince Henry’s High School is proud to be part of a united and vibrant community. There is an all-encompassing togetherness that runs through every aspect of school life.” I would like to thank everybody who has supported and made Prince Henry’s the school that it is today. I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of this Outstanding school. However, we realise that, in an ever-changing world, there are still many challenges for young people and we will continue to be relentless in our drive to support and prepare our current and future students for the world in front of them.”
Parent View
Parent View is a facility for parents to give their views about their child’s school. It features twelve questions that cover a range of issues important to parents, such as the quality of teaching, whether your child is happy at school, and whether or not a parent would recommend the school. The results for the school are visible in Parent View although individual responses are not.
Ofsted analyses the responses given by parents on a monthly basis. Many parents who are happy with their child’s school use Parent View to share their satisfaction or to show their support for the school. Where large numbers of survey results are critical of a school, inspectors will look at the information alongside other data, such as examination results, attendance records and complaint levels, to make a decision about whether to inspect a school.
We are drawing Parent View to your attention, because your voice will be essential in terms of the judgement Prince Henry’s receives in its next inspection. As you know, my colleagues and I have been very impressed with the way our students contribute to the school and the vast majority of students we meet and talk to seem very content and happy in their learning.
