School Closure Information
SEVERE WEATHER & EMERGENCY CLOSURE PROCEDURE
In the rare event that a decision needs to be taken to close the school due to extreme circumstances – most typically as a result of severe weather such as snow or flooding – notification and updates will be issued using the following methods:
- Text messages sent to parents/carers and staff via the mobile phone numbers they have designated. If a mobile number is not designated, an automated voicemail version of the text message will be sent to your home landline number. Please ensure that the school is informed of any changes to mobile numbers and other contact details.
- School website – messages and updates posted on the homepage
- School phone system – answerphone message updated
A school closure/partial closure notification will also be posted on the School Closures page on Worcestershire County Council’s website.
In the event of a closure, work will be set for students on ShowMyHomework. Parents/ carers are asked to ensure that their children access and complete any work that is set.
A decision on whether to close the school will usually be taken by the Headteacher early in the morning, in consultation with senior colleagues and the School Transport team at the Local Authority. Key considerations will include:
- Which buses (if any) are running – a decision that is taken by the bus operators
- Whether sufficient staff will be able to get to and from school safely
- The likelihood of weather conditions deteriorating further during the day, making road conditions for buses and other motorists more difficult and/or dangerous
CLOSURE DURING THE COURSE OF THE SCHOOL DAY
If, following consultation with bus companies and the Local Authority, a decision is taken to close the school early, a text message will be sent and website update posted as a priority, detailing the time of the closure and any other important information.
STUDENTS TAKING PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS
Even if school buses are not running and school is otherwise closed, we will make every effort to put on special arrangements for students taking any public examinations. If at all possible these students are asked to make private arrangements to come into school to sit the examinations as they cannot be rescheduled. Internal exams, eg mock GCSE or mock A Levels will be rescheduled in the event of a closure.
