Physical Education

Physical Education

Our intent in Physical Education is to provide a varied, rich and challenging curriculum that will prove to be stimulating to all students regardless of their sporting prowess and preferred activities. We aim to develop the fitness and skill levels of all students through a progressively demanding curriculum.

For each of the activities offered in Core PE we intend to offer an extra-curricular club and competition, where possible, so that there is the opportunity for students to be stretched and challenged above the time they get in their lessons.

We also tailor our activities in line with the assessment criteria for the GCSE, A Level PE and BTEC Sport courses that we offer.

Students in Year 9 take part in a two-week ‘super-curriculum’ block where the aim is to enthuse and inspire students to engage with activities that they don’t normally get the chance to within our curriculum.

With our 6th Form students we intend to offer a variety of recreational opportunities to enjoy physical activity in different ways and to also offer some competitive sport for those students who are interested. We intend to develop the students’ ability to take responsibility for their own activity levels and to bridge the gap between compulsory Physical Education and ‘the real world’.

For our theory groups, our intent is to arm our students with the independent study skills they require to enjoy success within their chosen course and any further education or employment. We also intend to give them the specific subject knowledge and skills needed to meet the assessment criteria of their courses. The intention is that students will receive regular feedback throughout, with standardised and formal assessments used to allow staff and students to monitor progress.
