Modern Foreign Languages

Modern Foreign Languages

Our aim is to inspire a love of languages and an appreciation of different cultures. We want to broaden students’ horizons and make them aware of the rich rewards that come with speaking another language including becoming culturally sensitive global citizens. We want our young people to know that learning another language opens up new opportunities and provides perspectives that they might never have encountered otherwise.

We aim to teach students the importance of being literate and of having excellent communication skills, to understand and to respond to a variety of authentic texts and dialogues, including literary extracts and to explore the cultures of the languages that they study, therefore enhancing their cultural capital. We want to actively engage our students and trigger their curiosity of the world around them.

Overall, the MFL department hopes to develop their students’ all-around education together with the competencies needed to enter the world of work after their full time education.
