YEAR 9 COUNTY WINNERS
The Year 9 rugby team have enjoyed an excellent season that has seen them finish as runners up in the Bromsgrove 7’s plate final, reach the Midlands Cup semi final, and win the District Cup.
The team made a flying start by winning their first 4 fixtures; the boys finish the season having lost only 2 of the 15 games played. A large part of the team’s success has been down to the competition for places, with over 28 different players representing the school side throughout the campaign.
The team should also be commended for their commitment to training sessions throughout the year; despite poor weather conditions attendance was always good . Playing the Midlands Cup Semi Final at Coventry RFC was a highlight, although unfortunately the fixture resulted in defeat for Prince Henry’s. Despite this setback the team rallied and came together to win the District Cup Final against Chase High School 34-7.
In a gritty performance under floodlights at Bromsgrove RFC the quality of the Prince Henry’s attack was too much for the opposition defence to cope with. There have been some outstanding individual performances throughout the season and although it is difficult to choose, Ben Holland has been the player of the season.
The dedication, hard work, commitment and success of this year give us every confidence that there will be more good news to report next season.
