U18 Girls’ Indoor Cricket County Champions

On Thursday 6th February ten girls from Years 9-11 played in the first ever Worcestershire Cricket Board U18 Girls’ Indoor Cricket Tournament. They played against Sixth Form teams from South Bromsgrove School and Worcester College of Technology, with the latter including two former Prince Henry’s students. The tournament was designed so that each team played the others twice in a pairs cricket format, meaning that every member of the team contributed with both the bat and the ball.

The Prince Henry’s girls started strongly, beating Worcester Tech and then going on to beat South Bromsgrove as well. Over the course of the afternoon the standard of cricket in all teams improved dramatically. The second game against Worcester Tech was closer, but it was the final game of the afternoon which proved to be the tightest of the day. After 16 overs of cricket the teams were only divided by the fact that South Bromsgrove had lost four wickets whilst Prince Henry’s only lost two.

All the girls worked extremely well together, each contributing their specialist skills, either as bowlers, batters or fielders. Martha Farnworth captained her team well. Catherine Vose and Meg Willoughby were the pick of the bowlers, with Rachel Fenney leading the way with the bat, ably assisted by Lucy Smith. Emma Jennings, Lola Gisborne and Betty Powell took some excellent catches between them, and Olivia Marshall and Chloe Witheford put in some good shifts behind the stumps.
