Under 15s Boys’ Cricket Team Reach County 20/20 Final
Prince Henrys Under 15s boys cricketers have done tremendously well to reach the County final of the National 20/20 Competition, having defeated Dyson Perrins, Windsor High of Halesowen and Ellowes of Dudley in the earlier rounds of the competition.
Sadly, in the final which was played at Malvern College on Thursday 6th June, the home side proved to be too strong. Prince Henry’s were bowled out for 95, with Charlie Banning contributing 59 of these runs. Malvern completed their victory with the loss of two quick wickets, but with plenty of overs to spare.
Although naturally disappointed, the team have been superb and should be very proud of their achievements this season.
Semi-Final Match Report, 22nd May 2013
In the semi-final, Prince Henrys elected to bat first and despite the early loss of opener Charlie Banning, skipper Matt Knight and Worcestershire Under-14 Dom Fenney did a superb job in taking the score to 74 for 1. Once Fenney was dismissed Knight took command, finishing the innings unbeaten on 36. Helped by some late lusty blows from Charlie Roberts, the home side finished on 123 – 3 at the end of 20 overs.
In reply, Ellowes started steadily and were keeping up with the run rate until the introduction of off spinner Fenney slowed them down. With the loss of the key wicket of Ellowes opener Jones, who was stumped by Jonny Deakin off Fenney, followed immediately by a smart run out by Ben Smart, Ellowes were in trouble. Year 9 seam bowler Michael Towey was only hit for 10 runs in his 4 overs; and with the pressure building on Ellowes, Nathan Bolland came on to take 4 wickets as the visitors finished on 83-8.
Prince Henry’s have deservedly earned their place in the final against Malvern, who defeated Bromsgrove School in their semi-final match. The winners of Thursday’s final will then into the National draw for the next round of the competition.
