National U15 Chance to Shine Cricket Competition

Having won the County and Midlands Regional rounds of the ECB’s Chance to Shine U15 cricket competition, in defence of the national final which they won in 2013, on Tuesday 16^th September, our team returned to Northamptonshire’s county cricket ground for the finals of this year’s competition.

Unfortunately, despite a spirited defence of the title, we were defeated in the semi-final by the Regional winners from London and the South East – Glyn, an all-boys’ school from Surrey.  They restricted us to 61 for 4 in our 7 overs with some very tight bowling. They chased down our total and deservedly took their place in the final, while Prince Henry’s progressed to the 3^rd /4^th place play off, facing the winners of the North of England Region – High Tunstall School from Durham.

The boys showed fantastic resilience to bounce back from defeat and put a great show on for the supporters who had travelled down to cheer them on. We posted a huge 101 for 2 in our 7 overs with all our batsmen clearing the boundary at regular intervals with some very clean striking. This turned out to be the highest score from any of the games and proved too much for our opposition, meaning that we finished in 3^rd place.

The boys who played and the supporters who travelled down all conducted themselves fantastically. To get so close to retaining a National title is a magnificent achievement by everyone involved. Congratulations to all involved, including the team coaches, Mr Bridgens and Mr Pilling.
