Audiences of all ages were recently treated to a wonderful performance of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”, which ran for three nights in the Arts Centre.
Although the production stayed true to Shakespeare’s text, it was staged with a 1980s theme, cleverly using well-known 80s tunes to link scenes and really drawing out the humour of the play. The excellent cast were largely dressed in an array of ra-ra skirts, legwarmers and the occasional kaftan, whilst memorably, the main parts featured a Goth-style Katherina, Petruchio dressed as Adam Ant, and Gremio who, surprisingly, bore a strange resemblance to Michael Jackson!
Thanks and congratulations must go to everybody involved: cast, technical crew, backstage crew, and all the students, staff, friends and family who worked so hard and gave up so much of their time to help with the staging, set design, painting & construction, costumes, props, programme and ticket design & sales, logistics, and front of house. Finally, a special thank you to Miss Pomeroy and Mrs Cook for directing and producing the show.
