Students taking part in this year’s Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme have taken an exciting step forward after completing a full planning session for their upcoming practice expedition in Shropshire.
During the session led by Mr Collings, pupils worked collaboratively to map out their walking routes, organise kit lists, discuss campcraft, and agree on the goals for their assessed expedition. Working in their teams, they explored the terrain of the Shropshire Hills—an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty—and developed confidence in their ability to navigate, problem-solve, and support one another.
Staff were impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and teamwork. Many groups demonstrated real maturity as they reviewed safety considerations, established clear daily plans, and carefully prepared for the physical and mental challenges ahead.
The planning session marks an important milestone in the DofE journey. Over the coming weeks, students will continue to refine their equipment choices and build their fitness before heading out on the expedition which runs from 22nd to 24th April. The Shropshire countryside will offer a brilliant opportunity for them to develop resilience, independence, and leadership skills— all key elements of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
We wish all participating students the very best as they continue their preparation. Their hard work and positive attitude are already shining through, and we look forward to seeing them put their plans into action on the expedition.
