On Friday 19th September, our Head Students – Alice Collett, Iris Risdale, and Steven Unwin – and our Deputy Head Students – Zoe Brotherton, Viktoriia Cherkaska, and Ellie-Mae Thomas – together with Dr Evans, Mrs Barker, Mrs Lungley, Mrs Couliou, and Miss Thomas, met with Mr Lightfoot, Chief Executive Officer of NACE (National Association for Able Children in Education).
The discussion focused on how students learn in lessons, covering a wide range of themes: homework, private study, aspirational targets, exam practice, the importance of parents’ and carers’ evenings, professional development for staff, and academic development for students. Together, they explored not only what is working well, but also areas where provision and outcomes can be strengthened further.
NACE is an independent charity, founded over 40 years ago, which works with schools, education leaders, and practitioners to improve provision for more able learners and to increase challenge for all.
Its vision is that all young people, including the more able, have the opportunity to develop their abilities without limits – regardless of barriers to learning or the school they attend. This vision underpinned the discussions with our students, highlighting the importance of aspiration, equity, and challenge in every classroom.
Prince Henry’s was proud to gain the NACE Challenge Award following its Ofsted inspection last year. This award recognises the school’s high-quality provision for more able learners and its commitment to raising expectations and standards for all.
