South Worcestershire District and House Cross Country Event 2026

Prince Henry’s Hosts Successful District and House Cross Country Competition

On Tuesday 13 October, Prince Henry’s High School proudly hosted the South Worcestershire District Cross Country Championships. During the morning, we welcomed pupils from junior and middle schools across the district, with competitors from Years 5 to 8 taking on our challenging course. The event produced a fantastic atmosphere, with students displaying great determination, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day.

In the afternoon, over 100 Prince Henry’s students competed in the school’s House Cross Country event, which also served as the South Worcestershire district championship race and county qualifying event. The top eight finishers in each race secured qualification for the next stage of the competition later in the year.

Year 9 and 10 Girls
The first race saw the Year 9 and 10 girls tackle a demanding 3km course featuring difficult terrain and two challenging climbs through the orchard, amounting to 62 metres of elevation gain.
A thrilling contest developed between Lila Gallinah (Holland House) and Poppy Whelan (Lichfield House), with the pair running side-by-side for much of the race. Lila produced a strong sprint finish over the final 100 metres to claim victory in 13:12, just ahead of Poppy in 13:22. Harper Harris (Lichfield House) finished third in 14:07, while Megan Harrison (Holland House) was the first Year 9 athlete home, placing fourth overall in 14:44.

Year 9 and 10 Boys
The second race followed the same challenging 3km course and provided another impressive display of endurance and determination.
Reece Yarnold (Workman House) took first place in an outstanding time of 11:20. He was followed by Jack Savage (Lichfield House) in 12:00 and Eben Gittens (Lichfield House) in 12:02. The first Year 9 finisher was Kai Davis (Burlingham House), who finished fourth overall in 12:35.

Year 11 and Sixth Form Girls
The third race of the afternoon saw the Year 11 and Sixth Form girls compete over the same 3km course.
A standout performance came from Chloe Smith (Burlingham House), who produced a superb run to win the race as a Year 11 student in 14:12. Katie Jervis (Lichfield House), also in Year 11, claimed second place in 15:51, while Emily Cook (Deacle House) finished third in 16:47.

Year 11 and Sixth Form Boys
The final race of the day featured the Year 11 and Sixth Form boys, who faced a slightly longer and equally demanding 3.6km course.
Mikey Sale (Lichfield House) took victory in 14:10, closely followed by Henry Dew (Workman House) in 14:25. Third place went to Ferris Emanuel (Burlingham House) in 14:31. The first Year 11 athlete home was Sam Walker (Lichfield House), who finished fourth overall in 14:43.

House Competition Winners
After all four races had been completed and the points calculated, Lichfield House emerged as convincing overall winners of the House Cross Country competition.
Congratulations to all students who took part and represented their houses with pride. A special thank you must also go to the 30 student volunteers and marshals who gave up their day to help manage the course and ensure the event ran smoothly. Their support was invaluable in making the event such a success.
Well done to everyone involved in a fantastic day of cross-country running at Prince Henry’s High School.
