Sixth Form Parallel Election

The Parallel Election in Year 12 has continued over the past few weeks with a range of different events culminating in the students, their Tutors and the Sixth Form Team going to the polls today. Our candidates have been most impressive throughout the process, conducting themselves in all their debates with good humour, knowledge and respect for each other and the electorate. Our candidates are Henry Clelland (Conservative), Toby Collins (Labour), Barnaby Gibbons and Emina Selcuk (Liberal Democrat), Mckenzie Reeve (Reform) and Caitlin Snell and Ciara Hart (Green).

After the initial speeches the candidates took part in a ‘Question Time’ session during their Enrichment lesson. The candidates faced some challenging questions on a diverse range of topics including national debates such as those on Defence, the NHS, Immigration and the Cost of Living Crisis as well as a range of other more local issues.

This week there has been another hustings where the candidates were able to debate issues amongst themselves with the rest of Year 12 in attendance. Again a wide range of issues were discussed including Health, the Environment, Education, Equality and Social Mobility and there was also some debate about the UK Political System.

Today was Election Day which was ably managed by our Returning Officers Emily Peck, Rosie Alexander, Olivia Busby and Cara Griffiths. Postal votes were received from the students who are currently on their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Expedition. The result will be announced tomorrow during the Year 12 Rewards Assembly.
