The Enrichment and Personal Development Programme is designed to provide you with learning experiences from outside your chosen A level subjects and to support you in your personal development in the Sixth Form, giving you the opportunities to develop new skills. The more that you put into Sixth Form, the more you will get out of it.
Enrichment and Guidance (EaG)
This is a series of talks / workshops covering issues relevant to your health, welfare and future. Outside speakers will cover topics such as personal safety, alcohol / drug abuse, safe driving and volunteering. A large part of the programme is also focused on Careers and Next Steps to enable you to fully explore the options available to you.
In addition the programme is designed to extend your knowledge of the world by covering a wide range of topics from the taxation system to stem cell research. Attendance at the lectures is compulsory and the programme will help prepare you for the challenges of life beyond Sixth Form.
Elective and Service Programme (Year 12)
Part of your personal development is learning an extra skill which you can do through the Year 12 Elective Programme and through volunteering as part of our Service programme. The Elective Programme offers a wide range of different activities from things such as Thinking Skills AS level, Core Maths and EPQ to Musical Theatre, Crochet, Yoga, Astronomy, Creative Writing, Latin and Food Preparation Skills.
You can choose from a range of options to be role models to students in the lower school including:-Raising funds and organising charity events through Interact; leading Year 9 Drama club, supporting students at After Hours, taking on positions of responsibility, offering to help at school events, or as a Learning Support Assistant.
Elective and Service Programme (Year 13)
You will continue to participate in the Elective and Service programme in Year 13, either continuing an activity from Year 12 or taking on something new. There will be further opportunities to help at Open Evenings, Taster Days and as guides for visitors. You will also take on responsibilities as Year 9 Tutor Buddies, Mentors in Years 10 and 11, Ambassadors and Subject Champions. If you have enjoyed working with students in Years 9 to 11 as Maths Buddies or Literacy and Learning Support assistants then you can carry on with this in Year 13.
Sport
On Wednesday afternoons, you will have timetabled games lessons. You will be able to choose your activities – recreational or competitive – on a week by week basis. You will need to bring in your PE kit every Wednesday (PHHS Sixth Form Sports top; black unbranded joggers / leggings / shorts; trainers; (optional) Sixth Form Sport hoodie or plain navy unbranded hoodie).
Extra-curricular activities
We would like you to get involved in as many extra-curricular activities as possible while you are in Sixth Form. Even if you have never done a particular activity before, it is not too late to take the plunge. There are lots of formal activities in Sport, Music and Drama and also a range of other clubs and societies across school in which you can get involved or even take on a leadership role. In Music and Drama there are also opportunities to work back stage or in the technical team when we do shows and concerts. You can also support the Interact Charity Committee by getting involved with event organisation or you can take on the leadership roles on the committee acting as President, Treasurer and Secretary. In addition you can participate in a wide range of school visits including several residential trips. Many departments arrange extra-curricular visits and within Sixth Form we have Careers trips, residential visits to New York / Washington DC and Rome / Sorrento and social trips such as those to London and Birmingham.
Leadership
Leadership is an essential part of our Sixth Form as we expect all our students to be role models for year 9-11. It is integral within your learning and Sixth Form experiences, and there are also many formal leadership opportunities. During the Spring Term Year 12 students and staff appoint a number of Ambassadors and then from this group Senior Ambassadors and Head and Deputy Head Students are appointed in the Summer term. This team is encouraged to play a leadership role in the school community arranging events for students in years 9-11 and acting as ambassadors for the school. You can also apply to be a Subject Champion, stand for election as House Leaders and take the lead role in the House Council and managing House events. We also encourage our Sixth Form students to take a lead in organising a range of clubs and activities for younger students and organising a wide variety of whole school activities.
