School Meals
There are two cafeterias available to students and staff at Prince Henry’s – Henry’s (in the main school building) and Little Henry’s (in the Sixth Form Common Room). A range of snacks, as well as sandwiches, baguettes and hot and cold meals are available to order and purchase before school or during break and lunchtime.
The food is freshly prepared on site by ABM, the school’s catering contractors, who operate a three-week menu cycle (see link in blue box for sample menus and guide prices).
Students who prefer to bring a packed lunch can eat this in the PRH, or for Years 12 and 13, the Sixth Form Common Room.
Parents/Carers are asked to encourage their children to eat healthily and in particular, we would be grateful if you could impress upon them that they should not bring crisps, sweets and fizzy/energy drinks into school.
Cashless Payment System for School Meals
ABM operates a cashless payment system for food and drink purchases, using a biometric (finger print) identifier to deduct the cost from the individual’s online account. This account may be topped up via the ParentPay website (parents and staff will be issued with login information) or in cash via a machine in the school’s main reception area.
There is a spending restriction of £2.50 per meal and £10 per day on each account (although for students who are involved in extra-curricular activities after school and may therefore need to buy extra food, it is possible to request an increase in the daily limit). Where possible, parents and students are encouraged to top the online account up on a weekly (or longer) basis, rather than each day, in order to reduce unnecessary queues at the cash top-up machine.
Staff and students who do not consent to providing biometric information, but wish to be able to make purchases from Henry’s can be allocated a swipe card instead, which operates in the same way. Further information regarding the system is available from the school’s Operations Manager, Mrs Shalom.
Free School Meals
Parents/Carers should be entitled to claim a free school meal on behalf of their child/children if one of them is claiming either:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit) and your annual gross income is no more than £16,190
Working Tax Credit “run-on” (i.e. the four weeks you may receive after losing entitlement)
Universal Credit, provided your net earned income (after tax, and excluding benefits) is £7,400 or less per year (£616 per month)
If you believe that you are entitled to claim, further information is provided on the Worcestershire Children First website’s Applying for Free School Meals page . You will need to complete an online application form, which may be accessed from that page.
For parents/carers without an email account or access to the internet, in exceptional circumstances, the Local Authority will accept a paper application. They will need to request a copy from the Free School Meals Team on 01905 845280. They will need to have their National Insurance number and personal details to hand.
