SAFEGUARDING VISIT
Having recently been appointed as Governor responsible for Safeguarding and having undergone training by Worcestershire County Council, I was keen to get a better understanding of how safeguarding is managed within the school. I recently met with Mr Freeman who has taken over the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead on the retirement of Mr Roberts. Mr Freeman had worked closely with Mr Roberts before his retirement as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Mr Freeman talked me through the relevant policies and procedures as well as the training undertaken by new staff during their induction, and the regular training received by established staff. Our discussions also covered the changes in statutory guidance which have come about since the last review of the Safeguarding policy.
The current Safeguarding policy is due for review in February 2016, where the recent personnel changes of those responsible for safeguarding will be amended and the new statutory guidance will be incorporated.
On the same morning, I was also given the opportunity to meet with the School Secretary, Mrs Bradley, to review the school’s Single Central Register of recruitment checks. I am well aware, from personal experience, of the enormous amount of work required to keep this document up-to-date and Mrs Bradley should be commended for the processes that she has set up to ensure that the correct checks are undertaken at the right time of the recruitment process and logged appropriately.
I am extremely grateful to Mr Freeman and Mrs Bradley for their time and efforts in ensuring that I received a comprehensive briefing and I look forward to working with them in the future.
