Get Set to Make a Change Road show Monday 4th November 2013
In the build-up to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Prince Henry’s was proud to be one of a group of schools who were invited to be part of the Get Set 2012 network, whose aim was to promote the Olympic and Paralympian sporting ideals and encourage more young people to participate in sporting activities.
As part of the Olympic legacy initiative, a group of our Year 10 students – Melissa Humphrey, Nat Kyle, Beth Powell, Seb Speciale-Lees and Oliver Godfrey have formed a Get Set to Make a Change Team who will work with our feeder schools to be more active and lead healthier, balanced lifestyles.
In November, these ‘Legacy Leaders’ attended a training day at Dudley College, where they met Paralympian Nat Waddon (swimmer) and Olympian Etienne Stott (gold medal winning canoeist), and listened to their inspirational stories of how they succeeded in their chosen sport. The organisers posted the film above about the event on YouTube, which features a brief interview with Melissa Humphrey.
The purpose of the day was to network with other students and schools, and listen to their ideas of what they would do to make a change in people lives. By linking with our Mentor the students were able to gain knowledge and skills that will help them plan and run successful activities for our students and feeder school students using the Olympic and Paralympic Values as inspiration.
Throughout 2013/2014 our Legacy Leaders will be planning and running activities to promote active and healthy lifestyles through sporting activities such as a Year 9 Dodgeball tournament, assisting with District Cross Country, helping to plan and lead our successful Inclusion Festival. The final highlight of the year will be an Athletics Festival for our feeder Middle Schools.
