We are delighted to share the fantastic news that Mr Bornoff has successfully completed his Mountain Leader assessment, further strengthening our Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) expedition provision.
The Mountain Leader qualification is a nationally recognised award that requires a high level of skill, experience, and commitment. It involves rigorous training and assessment in navigation, safety management, group leadership, and outdoor risk assessment across challenging upland environments. Achieving this qualification is a significant accomplishment and reflects many hours of preparation, practical experience, and dedication.
This success will have a direct and positive impact on our DofE programme. With an additional qualified Mountain Leader within the school, we are now even better equipped to provide high-quality, safe, and enriching expedition experiences for our students. The qualification allows us to expand opportunities, support larger groups, and ensure that students benefit from expert guidance as they develop their skills in the outdoors.
DofE expeditions are a key part of the award, encouraging students to build resilience, teamwork, independence, and confidence. Having experienced and well-qualified staff is essential to delivering these experiences safely and effectively, and this achievement demonstrates the school’s ongoing commitment to excellence in outdoor education.
Mr Bornoff reflected on his achievement, saying:
“Completing the Mountain Leader assessment has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. I’m excited to use these skills to support our students on expedition and help them gain confidence in the outdoors; I can’t wait to get out there!”
Mr Pilling (DofE Manager) praised the accomplishment, highlighting the dedication involved:
“We are extremely proud of Mr Bornoff’s achievement. It not only showcases personal commitment but also greatly benefits our students. Our DofE expeditions will continue to go from strength to strength thanks to his expertise.”
Our students already gain so much from their participation in DofE expeditions, from learning practical navigation skills to building lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. This latest development ensures that these experiences will continue to be delivered to the highest standard.
Congratulations once again to Mr Bornoff – we look forward to seeing him out and about on expeditions over the coming week.
