MINDSET OVER MATTER
More than 40 visitors from local schools including St Egwin’s, St Andrew’s, Eckington, Cropthorne, Harvington and Ashton-Under Hill joined staff at Prince Henry’s for their TED Day today to explore the concept of the Growth Mindset.
The day was led by Professor Barry Hymer, an independent consultant who has written ten books, including a number on Growth Mindsets, and toured periodically with Professor Carol Dweck since 2010. As well as exploding many widely–held myths about learning, he motivated teachers from Reception to Year 13 to introduce and embed Growth Mindset practices in all our classrooms.
During the day, teachers were encouraged to reflect on their use of praise, their feedback strategies and their language in the classroom so that students “love learning, seek challenges, value effort and persist in the face of obstacles.”
