LES MISÉRABLES (SCHOOL EDITION) REVIEW
Congratulations to the cast, band, directors, technical team and everyone involved behind the scenes and front of house on the resounding success of Wednesday’s opening night of Les Misérables – despite the best efforts of the power company to turn the lights out and bring the proverbial curtain down before the first chord had been struck or note sung. But, as the stage adage goes, the show must go on,… and so it did! And how! And, as that curmudgeonly TV critic Craig Revel Horwood would be obliged to declare, it was:
FA-BU-LOUS!!!
(And I have deliberately allowed myself the indulgence of three exclamation marks even though I know English Language teachers have recently been enjoined to mark the use of even one exclamation mark as incorrect if not preceded by a ‘How…’ or ‘What…’.)
Les Misérables – more like Les Formidables! I wish everyone involved ‘Bonne chance’ and ‘Bonne continuation’ for the coming three performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
There is one downside to last night’s show though: I now have all those memorable tunes coursing around in my head, but, regrettably, I just don’t have the voice to do them justice. Definitely more Russell Crowe than Alfie Boe.
