9th March 2023
Safeguarding, Diversity and Inclusion Governor

On Wednesday 9th March 2023 Mr Freeman invited me into school to attend the weekly attendance meeting.  This is a meeting during which Deputy Heads of Year with responsibility for their Year group attendance meet with Mrs Jennings the school attendance officer and Mr Freeman to discuss and update the group on attendance figures and pupil absence. This is also the opportunity to review the attendance of students on alternative educational programmes including The Lodge and The Bridge and students who are being educated at other off-site provisions or students who are receiving a bespoke timetable through the Medical Educational Team.

I was invited to attend the Year 10 assembly which was taken by Dr Evans and focused on the school’s universal values and principles.
I would like to thank Dr Evans and Mr Freeman for their time.

Governor Visit – 29th March 2023
Safeguarding, Diversity and Inclusion Governor

As part of my Governor role I regularly visit the school to meet Mr Freeman for an update on safeguarding and Mrs Bradley (Headteacher’s PA) who is responsible for Human Resources and maintaining the school’s safeguarding Single Central Record (SCR).

Today Mr Freeman invited me to attend the weekly safeguarding meeting which is attended by Heads of Year, Mrs Walker (Safeguarding Co-ordinator) and Mrs Walters (Lead School Counsellor).  The progress / concerns of students was discussed and updates shared.

Mrs Walker explained her role and rationale for meeting students and during our meeting I was delighted to be introduced to a couple of students she mentors.

The remainder of my time in school was spent with Dr Evans, Mr Freeman and Mrs Bradley during which we reviewed the Single Central Record.

Again I was delighted to attend a Year 10 assembly during which Mr Roleston (Head of Year) impressed upon the students what it means to be successful and the importance of trying to achieve a goal.  Being the final assembly of the Spring Term was also the opportunity to focus on rewards and it was pleasing to see so many students rewarded for their hard work and receiving affirmation for all they do.

Many thanks to Dr Evans and colleagues for their very warm welcome.
