Governor Visit (P.E.)– 9th January 2025

As link governor for PE, it was a pleasure to visit the department and meet with the Head of PE, Mr Thompson, and members of the senior leadership team, Mrs Webb and Mrs Fisher.

We discussed successful changes that have taken place in the department this year, such as new extra-curricular clubs – Bhangra Dancing has been particularly popular, with wonderful performances in assemblies! IPADs have been a positive addition to classes, being used to record practical activities so that students can look back and see where they can improve their sporting performance. There has also been a focus on well-being and physical activity for health, which has benefitted all students.

We visited a GCSE PE class, where the students were well behaved and confident about discussing issues and answering questions. When I spoke to them, they commented that they were really enjoying GCSE PE, saying that it was well taught and that they enjoyed the practical component – playing sport- most.

Mr Thompson reported that overall, the department has had a very positive year, with students thriving in PE lessons, being successful in competitive sport and achieving good results at GCSE, BTEC and A level.

Thank you, Mr Thompson, for an informative and interesting visit.
