It was a pleasure to meet up with Mrs Nolan, SENDCO, to catch up with all that was going on in the SEND department at PHHS.
I would like to congratulate Mrs Nolan on finishing her Masters degree in SEND and Inclusion.
Staff were working hard to complete referrals. The number of EHCP referrals had risen along with the complexity of the needs of students. The Leaning Support Department was working hard to identify any gaps and needs of students to provide targeted interventions and support.
The department had identified a need for a dedicated emotional support and wellbeing room, a space had been earmarked and the department welcomed the addition.
There have been more ADHD and Autism referrals in the first term of 2024/2025 than in the whole of the previous academic year, these numbers were significantly rising. The Learning Support Department worked closely with each family to obtain the best outcome.
A piece of work was being carried out within the department to look at the effective deployment of the 8 LSA’s at PHHS. Intervention groups were being considered with each LSA taking ownership of a specific intervention i.e. handwriting, reading etc. The LSA’s were enjoying their responsibilities.
Morale was good within the SEND department and staff were enjoying working with the students who needed extra support.
I wish the department, students, and staff all the best for the remainder of the 2024/25 academic year.
