On Wednesday 20th May, students were invited to the gardens of Buckingham Palace to celebrate achieving their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The event was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the culmination of months of hard work, commitment and personal growth. Throughout the day, students were able to relax on the palace lawns, enjoy garden games, listen to military bands, and visit the tea tent for refreshments. They also heard from a range of inspiring guest speakers, including Gareth Malone, Sam Thompson and Kate Garraway. Students even had the opportunity to meet HRH the Duke of Edinburgh during the celebrations.
Achieving the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an outstanding accomplishment and reflects the passion, resilience and self-belief shown by all of the students involved. From volunteering and developing new skills, to completing their physical activities, expedition and residential sections, students have demonstrated determination and maturity throughout the process. They should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.
A special mention must go to Rhys Taylor, a partially sighted student whose incredible determination and perseverance throughout the award was truly inspiring. Rhys approached every challenge with positivity and resilience, embodying the very spirit of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and serving as an example to everyone around him.
Congratulations to all students who achieved their Gold Award – a fantastic achievement and a memorable day to celebrate it.
