On Thursday, 29th January, twelve Year 12 Law students took part in the Getting Court programme at Worcester Combined Court. During the visit, students had the opportunity to listen to and ask questions of the High Sheriff of Worcestershire, Ian Smith, as well as His Honour Judge Burbidge.
Students then observed live court proceedings and learned about the roles and responsibilities of court officials, gaining a valuable insight into how the justice system operates in practice.
The day concluded with a reflection session reviewing the morning’s observations, during which students made thoughtful and perceptive comments about what they had seen. The experience proved both sobering and inspiring, and it is hoped that for some students this will be the first step towards a future career in the legal profession – perhaps returning one day as an usher, barrister, or even a judge.
