Sports Day and Games Day Bring Sunshine, Spirit and Success
Despite soaring temperatures of around 30°C, Wednesday 8th July proved to be another fantastic day of competition, teamwork and house spirit at Prince Henry’s High School as students took part in our annual Games Day and Sports Day.
The day began with Games Day, where students enjoyed a wide range of activities designed to encourage participation, teamwork and friendly competition. From football, basketball and tennis to retro gaming, board games and many other events, there was something for everyone. Across every activity, students demonstrated excellent attitudes, enthusiasm and sportsmanship, creating a fantastic atmosphere despite the challenging heat. House pride was evident throughout the morning as students competed with determination and enjoyed supporting one another.
In the afternoon, attention turned to the athletics track for Sports Day, where students competed in a range of traditional athletics events. The fields were alive with colour and noise as students proudly represented their houses with face paint, homemade banners and enthusiastic cheering, creating an electric atmosphere throughout the competition.
One of the standout moments of the day came in the high jump, where Lila Gallinagh produced an outstanding performance, finishing just 2 centimetres short of breaking A. Harrison’s school record, which has stood for 22 years. It was a remarkable effort, and we look forward to seeing Lila challenge the record again next year.
Keeping everyone cool in the sweltering conditions, our Interact group sold ice creams throughout the afternoon in support of charity, with record sales reflecting both the generosity of our school community and the welcome relief they provided in the heat.

A huge thank you to all the staff, student leaders and volunteers who helped make the day such a success. It was a wonderful celebration of participation, resilience, teamwork and house pride, and a fitting highlight at the end of the school year.
