Deacle House

Why are we called Deacle?

John Deacle was born on 10th June 1660 in Bengeworth. He made his fortune in the woollen trade and became an Alderman of London. Upon his death in September 1709, John Deacle’s will left provision for £2,000 to be spent on building a charity school, with a further £300 per year for the ongoing running of that school. The new school, which became known as Deacle Charity Free School, was to offer 30 boys from the poorest of backgrounds of the parish the chance of an education, the right to which was normally only for the privileged few at this time.

The Deacle School was built in Port Street in 1729 and was only closed in 1905. The old school building still stands, and although it now has shop fronts obstructing the view, it can be found on the right hand side as you head up Port Street from the Workman Bridge.

In 1906 the Deacle Charity Free School and Prince Henry’s Grammar School merged together under the control of Worcestershire County Council, and the Deacle School pupils joined the Prince Henry’s students at Lanesfield on Greenhill.

Your House Ambassadors and House Leaders

Your Deacle House Ambassadors and House Leaders have a really important role within the school community. They represent you and are your voice for all things Prince Henry’s. It’s important to speak to these representatives with any ideas, concerns or queries. They will then represent you at the termly House and Diversity Council meetings, where all Ambassadors and leaders assemble to discuss various important topics and share your voice.

House Leaders from Year 12 take on further responsibilities of supporting the Head of House with running clubs as well as helping organise and lead House events. This is a great way for Leaders taking part in Gold D of E to work towards their Leadership Award.

Sports Captains

Your Deacle Sports Captains support Heads of Houses with organising teams for their year groups’ Inter-House sport competitions. You will see these Captains throughout the year during form time, building the House teams to collectively strive for success. If you have any queries around PE/Sport at Prince Henry’s, your Captains can share your views at the termly Sports Captain meetings with Mr Thompson (Head of Physical Education).

Mr George’s Clubs

Retro Gaming Club, offers an inclusive space for students to enjoy classic games in a fun, social environment in the school computer labs. Each term, we run a competition where students compete in a selected retro game, with winners receiving a £20 gift voucher and house points. All students are welcome to join us in B8 every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime.

Cyber Security & Coding Club meets in B8 every Friday lunchtime, giving students the chance to develop coding and problem-solving skills through a range of challenges. Activities include personal projects, Amazon coding tasks, GCHQ-style puzzles, and supervised exercises such as secure remote access to Linux systems. The club welcomes all skill levels in a relaxed, supportive setting.
