Ollie Scanlan 13DM, was chosen as a finalist in the Cambridge University HE+ Academic Poster Competition, for his poster which asked the question: “Life on Mars: How does the Martian environment pose a threat to permanent settlement?” He was invited to Cambridge University, to present his work as one of 28 finalists for the HE+ project selected from all over Great Britain. Academic posters are an important aspect of university teaching because they demonstrate research skills, communication skills, and a passion for a particular subject. This year the over-arching theme was “Uncertainty”.
As part of his day Ollie had workshop on presentation skills and a tour of St Johns College including lunch in the great hall. Following this he presented his project to scholars, lectures and invited guests where he represented PHHS with distinction. He received a great deal of praise for this project, his presentation and his ability to elaborate on key areas within his study when asked searching and challenge questions. Being selected as a finalist is a fantastic achievement and having the opportunity to discuss his ideas with such a distinguished group was a wonderful opportunity for Ollie, and a challenge which he rose to with confidence and style.
