Author Visit: Matt Dickinson

AUTHOR VISIT: MATT DICKINSON

World Book Day on 6 March, was celebrated by the visit of the successful author and film maker Matt Dickinson, who talked to the whole of Year 9 on Wednesday 5 March, about his successful climb up the North Face of Everest, and about his writing career.  He is the author of the ‘Mortal Chaos’ series, and has just published ‘The Everest Files’.  He gave two workshops in the Learning Resource Centre on creative writing to Year 9 classes, and signed copies of his books at lunchtime.  His visit was a great success, and this was followed by a Book Swap Event during the following two days in the LRC which raised money for ‘Caring Hands in the Vale’.  Year 9 and 10 had competitions during World Book Day week, where they had to continue a story.   Harriet Gill 9G and Owen Leeks 9G won first and second prizes (book tokens) for Year 9.  Yva Petit 10Z, and Chloe Witheford 10B, won the first and second prizes for Year 10.  Over 40% of each year group entered the competition.
