Holocaust Education Trust – Lesson from Auschwitz Project, 23 April 2013
To walk in the footsteps of so many who never left the death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau was a very emotional and humbling experience. Along with Ciaran Grant and Zoe Butler, I was invited to join a party of 160 students and teachers from the West Midlands, plus several guests including Harriett Baldwin MP to learn more about the lives and deaths of so many European Jews. The Holocaust Education Trust certainly packed a great deal into this day-trip. We met at Birmingham airport at 5.00 am and returned at 10.30 pm, but our discomfort was nothing compared to that of the people who passed through Auschwitz during WW2. The phrase ‘life-changing’ is often over-used but for those on this trip I think it is an appropriate comment to make. It will serve to remind us all of the importance of tolerance of religious, racial and cultural differences. “
