I had a super meeting with Jessica Aitken, Head of Art, on the 27th June. I was given a sneak preview of some of the work that will be displayed at the Art Show. It is amazing to see the variety of subject, size, medium and personal interpretation.
The work of the students had been moderated the week before. Mrs Aitken was pleased with the positive feedback and feels confident that the marks will stand with perhaps only a couple of minor changes. This is particularly pleasing because the curriculum and national assessment process has been changed and now has a slightly different emphasis.
The curriculum, as in all departments, has changed and the team are looking forward to next year when they hope to embed what has been trialled this year and feel confident to teach the new areas of learning and be even more adept at assessing progress throughout the year thereby be more able to support and meet the needs of the students.
Clover Parker-Winters will be back from her maternity leave soon – next week!… and with Lucy Salter and Jo Hack, Mrs Aitken believes that the Art Department has a strong, enthusiastic and committed team, that have already got plans for next year and looking forward to engaging all students and having a happy, successful year together.
I also spoke to Lucy Salter, who has just completed a very exciting and enjoyable NQT year and is looking forward to tweaking and implementing her improved plans and taking ownership of the curriculum next year. She felt that she had learnt a lot from the CPD she received.
Details of the Art Show can be seen on the website.
Thank you to the art team!
