Sixth Form Transition

Welcome all potential Year 12 Students from Mrs Webb

A very warm welcome to all students who are joining Prince Henry’s Sixth Form in September 2021.  This page is dedicated to you and it applies equally to those who are currently at PHHS and those of you who will be joining us from other schools.

I am really sorry not to be welcoming you in person to our Induction Day, it’s always such a happy day, however you will find here on our Online Induction Page all the materials that you need to ensure that you are ready to start Sixth Form in September.

There is a series of films: General Information, Sixth Form Enrichment, and Results, Confirmation and your First Day.  Watch the films to get the information that would have been presented to you on Induction Day.  There is essential information about our option blocks and how to confirm your choices after Results Day (12th August) to finalise your place.

You will also find an Induction Booklet that you can download which contains essential key information.

An important part of sixth form is the fact that our Tutor Groups are made up through friendship groups so we ask you to select up to three friends with whom you would like to be in a Tutor Group.  If you are joining us from another school and you don’t know anyone then we will put you in a group with others in a similar position.  Follow this link to the sign up page.  You need to submit your choices by 12th July.  We can’t guarantee that you will be with all your friends but we will do our best!

On this page you will find a range of activities and tasks that you can complete to prepare you for starting your Level 3 courses with us.  Just follow the links to the subjects you wish to study to find the materials.  Trying out some of the activities might help with your final decision making about which subjects you wish to study as there is information about the different courses as well as preparatory tasks to work on.  Completing the tasks is not mandatory, and you are not expected to bring work with you when you start with us, but students who wish to make a strong start to their studies next year would be well advised to complete as many of the preparation activities as they can, and we strongly suggest you store all work completed safely as it will be relevant and helpful for you.

As well as induction activities that bridge the gap between GCSE and A level, there are consolidation activities to ensure that you have retained essential foundation knowledge and also lots of stretch and challenge wider reading activities including reading lists, podcasts and films.  It is really good practice to get into the habit of doing this wider reading and subscribing to relevant podcasts so that when you are studying in sixth form you are constantly enriching your understanding.

I hope you enjoy engaging with your learning and taking the first step to becoming a fully-fledged Year 12 student.

I know that in the context of the ongoing national situation you may feel anxious about starting a new stage of your education, or indeed for some of you, a new school.  Therefore, I am happy to answer any questions that you may have and can be contacted via the Sixth Form Office sixthform@princehenrys.worcs.sch.uk

I hope that these transition materials, will enthuse you about the prospect of studying in our Sixth Form and most importantly prepare you for future challenges and provide reassurance in these difficult times.

I, and the Sixth Form Team, look forward to working with you and welcoming you to our Sixth Form.
