Prince Henry’s was designated as a National Teaching School in 2014 and since that time we have taken a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession, providing support for other schools, as well as providing professional development opportunities for teachers at all stages of their career. We were delighted to achieve designation as a SCITT in 2016 as this has allowed us to ‘grow our own’ and play an even greater role in teacher training nationally as a well as in the local area.
Since 2017 I have been Chair of the Worcestershire Teaching Schools Head Teachers group, co-ordinating the efforts of the Teaching Schools in our region in a Strategic School Improvement Project. For further information about all Teaching Schools across Worcestershire please go to our website using the link below.
At Prince Henry’s we believe that the recruitment and retention of highly qualified teachers is at the core of providing an excellent education to pupils. As a Teaching School we have been able to provide a wealth of professional development opportunities to our staff, who are then often able to share this more widely in the local community. A large number of our teachers have achieved National Professional Qualifications in Middle and Senior Leadership, whilst others are trained to facilitate these as part of Worcestershire’s Global Leadership Alliance with South Bromsgrove High School.
We support the career development of all our teachers, whether they are Newly Qualified or have many years of experience so that we are able to retain the best teachers and ensure that they continue to achieve professional development and satisfaction. We are proud that more than half of our current staff joined us as NQTs and have chosen to develop their careers with us! If you would like to find out more about the professional development opportunities offered by Prince Henry’s please see our CPD page below.
Since being accredited as an Initial Teacher Training Provider in 2016 we have established a partnership with a family ethos and shared a vision of Initial Teacher Training with the aim of producing outstanding practitioners for the 21st century. Trainees choosing to train with the Prince Henry’s and South Worcestershire SCITT will be trained by outstanding practitioners across a partnership of schools in the south of the county. We have an excellent completion history for our Trainees, with 100% of the cohort completing in 2018.
As an NQT Appropriate Body, Prince Henry’s works to provide all participating schools with the reassurance of support for their new teachers and their mentors and a great NQT induction experience. Prince Henry’s guarantees support to schools in providing best practice in developing the careers of teachers new to the profession. Where processes are excellent, we endeavour to share and promote these to other schools, enabling them to work together to the benefit of teachers refining their craft.
