During Year 9 all pupils follow a common curriculum. At the beginning of Year 10, pupils embark upon 2 year courses, in most cases leading to GCSE. Pupils spend more time on each of a reduced number of subjects, some of which are taken as “options”. We are now beginning the important period when the choice of subjects must be made.
Not all subjects are optional. At Prince Henry’s all students in Years 10 and 11 will study English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and Personal and Social Education (PSE), and at least one Modern Language. Apart from a language, they will have three other choices. We hope that the choices of students will reflect the advice given by the school, their own personal interests and the needs of their future career if they already know what they want to do.
The process of reviewing the options selected by each student and planning the whole school timetable is a complex one and parents are asked to ensure that the Options form for their son/daughter is completed and returned to the school by the deadline specified in the booklet.
