The government’s education policy involves a drive to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Research shows that pupils from deprived backgrounds underachieve compared to their non-deprived peers. Each school in the United Kingdom receives an allocation of funding based upon the proportion of students meeting the criteria set by the government. This funding is known as Pupil Premium (PP) money and eligibility is dependent upon the proportion of students receiving Free School Meals (FSM). Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium funding as they see fit, but each school has a duty to inform parents how the funding is supporting students who are eligible. The Pupil Premium is provided in order to support these pupils in reaching their potential by accelerating their progress. See our Pupil Premium Strategy for further information regarding PP funding at Prince Henry’s High School
