Governor Visit (Art & Textiles)
As link governor for Art and Textiles, I was delighted to visit the Art Department in the newly opened Design and Technology building. I was met by Mrs Aitken, Head of Art, who showed me round the spacious Art and Textiles rooms on the upper floor, with views out over treetops and plenty of natural light to help the students with their creative work. The students I met were clearly enjoying their lessons in the new specialised classrooms for DT, Art, Textiles and Food Technology and are benefitting from access to a wide range of new specialist tools and equipment.
We also discussed the experience of remote learning using Microsoft Teams during January and February, which could have presented a challenge for a subject like art! But Mrs Aitken told me that she is proud of the way that students rose to this challenge – most participated fully and actively in lessons and were resourceful in finding materials to complete the tasks set.
I am now looking forward to the annual Art Show which will be held online later this term – it is always a pleasure to see the high standard and amazing creativity in the displays of students’ GCSE and A Level course work.
