GOVERNOR VISIT: ICT
It was a pleasure to meet with Miss Berry on 30th January and a lovely opportunity to catch up with how the IT Department is finding the year so far.
As ever the atmosphere in the IT Department was upbeat and very positive. A super team of teachers passionate about their subject and enjoy teaching the students at PHHS.
A number of external examinations were sat by students in January including Year 10 IT, Year 11, 12 & 13 Media and Year 12 & 13 IT. In general, students were very positive about the experience and are looking forward to receiving their grades in March. A small number of students found the experience difficult, and so the staff are now able to identify and support these students further. External moderation in January for Year 11 Media was extremely positive and examination board feedback continues to praise the quality of the work produced by PHHS students. Mocks in Computer Science in both Year 11 & 13 look promising, however, there is still a lot of work to do before the Summer for students to reach their full potential.
Hanna and I chatted about safeguarding within the IT Department and the measures that are taken at PHHS. The Department has a facility where they can monitor what is being looked at by each individual student at any time whilst at school. This is monitored all day every day, and we discussed the importance of this in today’s world. The system is checked daily and any concerns reported to the Safeguarding Team, where the wheels are put in motion to ensure the student has the opportunity to talk.
The IT Department and students are fully utilising the new Mac suite and upgraded Adobe suite that was put in place last Summer and are also looking forward to using the new IT suite which is planned for the new build.
All in all another busy year has got off to a super start.
Thank you, Miss Berry and team for their hard work in running the IT department and thank you for a super meeting.
