SMSC QUALITY MARK – GOLD AWARD
We are delighted to announce that Prince Henry’s has been awarded the Gold level of the National SMSC Quality Mark – the highest award that is available.
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development sits at the heart of Prince Henry’s values and is a core feature of much of our curriculum, particularly PHSE and Citizenship. The SMSC Quality Mark’s website describes its objective as ‘[working] to ensure that children and young people are able to make a positive difference to the society in which they live – locally, nationally and globally. We do this by helping them develop knowledge, skills and confidence.’
In his letter confirming the award, the Verifier who visited the school said:
‘ I would like to offer particular thanks to the students who spoke so eloquently to me about life at Prince Henry’s and how supported they feel at your school. Throughout our discussions, it was clear that they know they are learning at a school that values them as individuals and supports them in their learning journey through school life, whilst preparing them for their future role as active citizens in your local community. The students gave excellent feedback on the strength of the school council and its importance in day to day life at Prince Henry’s. They were keen to tell me that staff go over and above to help them with their studies and support their wider SMSC development. They were clear about their democratic rights as young people and articulated well the importance of voting. Students understood their rights and responsibilities inside and outside of school.
I would also like to thank and congratulate the Governors and staff who talked positively about life at Prince Henry’s and evidenced well their robust approach as Governors in providing challenges to the senior team and securing those wider outcomes that would support student development in SMSC. Governors have a clear focus on the school’s SMSC vision and are able to articulate this well.’
I would like to congratulate and thank Miss Thomas who co-ordinated the school’s application for this prestigious accreditation, and to thank the students, staff and Governors who supported her in this process.
