Prince Henry’s is a busy school site, with a great deal of traffic using our entrance driveway every day. Traffic entering our site includes our students, staff, theatre users and users of our sports facilities. In recent years, the roadway in front of the theatre entrance has deteriorated considerably, and over the next four weeks, work will be conducted on the driveway to correct this. As part of this, the roadway will also be widened at certain points to improve the visibility and safety of vehicles entering and leaving the site. To enable this, the embankment behind 2 Princess Road will be dug back by around one metre and the footpath in front of the theatre will be moved closer to the building.
As this is the school’s main entrance, we will be carefully managing the works to cause as little disruption as possible. For the remainder of the school term (from now until Friday 20th July) preparatory works will be taking place on the embankment and also along the front of the Arts Centre. This won’t disrupt access to the site.
After school closes for the summer break, there will be a week of work on the driveway itself from 23rd July to 27th July, preparing it for the new road surface. The school and its facilities will remain accessible during this period.
During the second week of the holiday (30th July – 3rd August) the driveway will be skimmed and new tarmac laid down. This means that there will be times during this week when the school site and car park will not be accessible and therefore residents are advised to not use the school’s car park to avoid becoming unexpectedly stranded.
I’m sure that you will agree that this exciting project will greatly enhance the school site whilst increasing the safety to students, staff and visitors, as well as reducing some of the congestion at the start and end of the school day, when buses are accessing the school. We greatly appreciate your understanding whilst these works take place.
