WORCS GIRLS CAN
Prince Henry’s High School is proud to represent Wychavon District in the local Worcs Girls Can Campaign
Prince Henry’s High School has been chosen to lead a local campaign styled on the national ‘This Girls Can’ Initiative. Worcs Girls Can, now in its third year, is delivered by the Sports Partnership Herefordshire & Worcestershire (SPHW), in collaboration with six lead schools across Worcestershire, and is designed to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape. Size or ability.
The week-long celebration of physical activity runs from 19th – 23rd March 2018. During this week girls from Years 9 – 10 will find their classes transformed on Thursday 22nd March, when they will take part in Pilates and Zumba sessions.
Mrs Sophie Thorner (PE Teacher) said, ‘We know from experience when girls move up to High School their participation in sports and activities starts to dip. Some of this is due to being more body conscious, worried about sweating or concerned that they are not as good as everybody else. This initiative helps to break down these barriers for our young women and helps them uncover what their motivations may be in taking part in sport and physical activity.’
To help inspire our students, Sixth Former Clare Ballantine (Campaign Champion) interviewed some of our female teachers to see what sports/activities they take part in and why.
A clear message that we would like to send to our young women is, it doesn’t matter what sport or activity you take part in, just ensure you do something active for you to make friends, be active and have fun! To help you get started there are numerous FREE activities available for you to take part in. Just collect your Peach Pass from the PE department, where you will be entered into a school draw to win prizes. If you use your pass at a free event Worcs Girls Can will enter you into their prize draw where you could also win goodies as Natasha Wicks did last year when she tried Zumba & won an ipad!
