MOLECULAR BIOLOGY WORKSHOP
On Wednesday 22nd March 2017 the Biology department were pleased to host a special “Molecular Biology Workshop” for Year 13 Biologists. Professor Kevin Moffat and his team from Warwick University delivered a fascinating afternoon of practical activities and problem solving which gave our Biology students chance to try gel electrophoresis and the famous PCR where multiple copies of DNA are generated. It was a great opportunity to participate in practical activities that are beyond our school laboratories and we were very grateful to Professor Moffat for bringing the intricacies of DNA sequencing and analysis alive.
One participant commented : “This was a complex task that we did in simple stages and I can now see myself really enjoying my university course. Dr Moffat inspired me to go away and look up loads of interesting things”.
