World Book Day

Students were taught today (2nd March) by some very famous figures from the world of English and American literature to celebrate World Book Day. Members of the English department dressed up as well known characters from An Inspector Calls, Of Mice and Men, Lord of the Flies, A Christmas Carol and Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone to bring the world of books into our classrooms.

All students were given vouchers to spend on books as part of our celebration of the joy of reading so don’t let yours go to waste. In the words of Dr.Seuss “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

After all, there is a whole world of books out there. Where will your book take you?

Matt Dickinson, Author Visit

As part of our World Book celebrations, on Tuesday 28th February, we were delighted to welcome the successful author and film maker Matt Dickinson back to Prince Henry’s.  Matt is the author of the ‘Mortal Chaos’ series, ‘The Everest Files’.  During his visit he talked to the whole of Year 9 about his successful climb up the North Face of Everest, and about his writing career.  He also gave two workshops in the Learning Resource Centre on creative writing to Year 9 classes, and signed copies of his books at lunchtime.
